Law 675/96: Law covering handling of personal data.  Personal data means any data relating to the physical or legal person, organisation or association consenting the univocal identification, directly or indirectly, of the interested party.  Handling of personal data means: gathering, recording, organising, keeping, processing, selection, extraction, comparing, cross-linking, modification, embargoing, cancellation or destruction.  For this handling of data, the above law demands the permission of the interested party (with some specific exceptions).   It provides for the figure of the guarantor, an administrative organ responsible for the protection of the interested party where the handling of personal data is concerned.  It  also stipulates that the interested party be provided with the relevant information contained in the Law, with particular attention to his/her own rights.
